Topical tacrolimus can cause skin cancer and lymphoma. Judicious use of a topical corticosteroid to treat flare-ups is a better option in this situation. Oral or injectable tacrolimus is a standard immunosuppressant for transplant recipients, and in this situation its harm-benefit balance is clearly favourable.
