Investigations are not needed for the first episode if there is a negative review of the system. If it is a second episode or the history suggests a possible underlying cause, the appropriate investigations are: FBC, U and E, LFT, ESR, CRP, AS, Syphilis serology, HLA B27 and chest X-ray.
